Fossil Fish Found Alive
I am reading the book Fossil Fish Found Alive by Sally M. Walker. I found this book on Mr. Carpenter's book shelf. I chose this book because it looked interesting and the title was confusing. I wondered how a fossil could be alive. So i chose to read this book for my blog post. This book is about the discovery of the colencanth.
The colencanth is a fish that survived extinction. It is blueish and has hard scales that were covered with spiny points. It has a thick tail fin with a smaller fin that looked like an extra tail. The colencanth was five feet long.

The colencanth was first descovered in East London, South Africa. Courtenay-Latimer was the directer of teh East London Museum and as the directer, she was responsible for collecting animal and plant specimens for the museum to display. Hendrik Goosen often gave her fish from his daily catch. Hendrik Goosen was th captain of teh fish trawler Nerine. As Courtenay-Latimer looked at the pile of sea creatures she saw a flash of blue. She moved some fish to uncover the colencanth.
Scientist are still trying to solve mysteries of the colencanth. And discoverying more about them. Thanks to scientists and other people who helped and are helping uncover teh mysteries of teh colencanth we know of fish you survived extinction.
This book was about teh discovery and research about colencanths. I wonder if more colencanths are being caught and studied today.

Nice blog post, i never knew
Nice blog post, i never knew about a colencanth. I read your blog and it questioned me too. How does a fossil live? Isn't it a rock? When i look at that fish, a million new questions entered my mind, like how many more discoveries are there? How can a fish get so big?
