         Did you know that tigers are part of the cat family? Well, they are! Tigers are smart and brave animals. They eat meat and some tigers even purr! I read the book Big Cats by John Bonnett Wexo. I got this book from the library.

          Tigers are beautiful animals. Their striped coat makes a fantastic camouflage. Did you knonw if you where to shave a tigers fur the stripes would still be there! A tiger’s tail gives the tiger extra balance for running. The tail is can also be used to communicate with other tigers. A tiger’s legs are very strong. For example one time a tiger was shot and still stood standing up. The tiger’s sharp teeth are important for chewing. A tiger’s canine tooth could grow up to 3 inches!

          Tigers are carnivores. This means that they like to eat meat. Tigers eat what they could kill. Tigers are also solitary hunters, they use their eyesight and hearing to catch an animal. A tiger eats about 6 kilograms per day. Tigers like to eat pig, deer and buffalo, but they also like to eat smaller preys like rabbits and fish. Yet, tigers could go a day with out eating!

          Tigers have a unique way of hunting. Tigers will first wait until an animal is left by its herd. Then the tiger would run towards it prey. The tiger then attacks the animal. The tiger bites its prey by the neck and waits till its dead. The tiger will not give up until the animal is dead. Once its dead the tiger will began to consume its meal.

          In conclusion, tigers in Asia are dieing rapidly. This is a result of hunting. Tigers are being hunted for their body parts. These pats are used as trophies, and jewelry. Three out of Eight species are currently extinct. The most endangered species is the “big cat”. It hasn’t been spotted for over twenty years. In order to continue learning about tigers we must save tiges from becoming extinct.
